Sexual Assault Support Services - Date Rape Drugs

It is important to become educated about Drug Facilitated Sexual Assault as you may actually be able to help prevent this, not just for yourself, but for those around you.  The drugs used to facilitate sexual assault are often colorless and odorless, and metabolize quickly.  Therefore, it is important to notice the signs and symptoms and act quickly.  Once these drugs take effect, they could render you powerless and unable to resist a sexual assault or even ask for help.

Be Aware

  • Never leave drinks unattended

  • Never accept drinks in open containers

  • Drinks from waiters and bartenders are not always safe

  • Never “bum” or accept cigarettes from others

If You Feel…

  • Disproportionately intoxicated

  • Extremely nauseous or dizzy

  • Suddenly confused or ill

...Immediately Get Help – Your time to act is limited.

  • Tell more than one person that you need medical attention

  • Do not go to a restroom or isolate yourself

  • Do not tell only your date or only one stranger

  • Do not put all of your trust in one good Samaritan

If You Believe Someone Has Been Drugged

  • Get him or her immediate medical attention

  • Do NOT leave him or her for any reason

  • Keep his or her beverage for drug testing

If you suspect that you or someone you know has been drugged, contact our 24-hour hotline at (908) 526-7444 to speak with a trained advocate about your concerns.  Please remember that the use of date rape drugs is a first-degree crime of Aggravated Sexual Assault in the State of New Jersey.  The use and/or abuse of these substances can lead to sexual assault and abuse, and even death.
